Escape Covid and Work from Cayman

Depending on where in the world you are ‘normal’ life may feel like a distant memory. Are you stuck at home, facing what feels like endless Covid restrictions? Are you dreaming of the day when you can go out for a drink after work, or invite friends over for dinner?

We have good news.

You can do that right now in Cayman!

If you’re a digital nomad or a professional working remotely, you can swap your four walls for blue skies, beaches, sea breezes and the safe, Covid-free environment of the Cayman Islands. Under a new scheme, you can come and live – and work from home – in the Cayman Islands, for up to two years.

Global Citizen Concierge Program

In October 2020 the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism launched the Global Citizen Concierge Program as way to encourage long-term visitors to come and enjoy the sun, serenity and safety of our islands.

The program is similar to the digital nomad visas other Caribbean nations like Barbados, Bermuda and Anguilla have launched. It’s aimed at those who are working from home but would like to do so in a tropical paradise.

What are the terms and conditions?

You’ll find full details here but it’s really very simple. The program is open to individuals, couples and families for an annual fee that increases with the number of dependents. The costs are:

  • US$1469 per year for up to two persons
  • US$500 per year per dependent

The basic conditions are that you must earn more than the minimum threshold and provide proof of employment. The minimum salary requirements are:

  • For an individual: US$100,000 per annum
  • For an individual plus spouse/partner: US$150,000
  • For an individual plus spouse/partner and/or dependents: US$180,000

You will also be asked to provide a bank reference, proof of identity, a police clearance and proof of health insurance for at least 30 days (after which you must take out local health insurance).

Not too tricky, is it? It’s easy to apply too: you can do it online here.

Why work remotely from the Cayman Islands?

No Covid restrictions: Thanks to the Cayman Islands’ Government’s decisive action when the pandemic reared its ugly head, we’ve been able to stay Covid-free here. Our borders remain closed to commercial flights and all arrivals must quarantine (including remote workers, of course) so once here you can relax and enjoy life without restrictions.

An enviable lifestyle: Virus or no virus, Cayman is a wonderful place to live and work. Imagine being able to start your day with a walk along a spectacular beach, then pick up a freshly brewed coffee and pastries before you open up your laptop. When your work day ends there is the ocean to swim in, tons of outdoor sports to play, and dozens of bars offering happy hour specials. And come the weekend, you can learn to dive or fish, play golf, go boating, or find a hammock in the shade and just… chill.

Fabulous food: There’s a good reason the Cayman Islands are dubbed the ‘culinary capital of the Caribbean’ and even the most discerning foodies won’t be disappointed here. There are restaurants serving just about any cuisine you can think of, often in idyllic seaside settings and the quality is superb. To whet your appetite, we’ve got 21 suggestions for you!

Sound infrastructure: Cayman’s infrastructure is modern and reliable, so you can continue to work seamlessly with fast internet and a reliable power supply. Elsewhere you’ll find good roads, well-stocked grocery stores and efficient, friendly service wherever you go.

Fantastic homes: There are not many places in the world where you can step out of your living room right onto a beach, or where you can dock your boat outside your home, but that’s a common scenario in Cayman. There are hundreds of beachfront and canal front homes here, as well as many exclusive residential communities with resort-style amenities, all built to the highest of standards.

It’s rare to find a home – whether a villa or a condo – that doesn’t have a private terrace or garden and most condos also have pools, gyms and tennis courts. Rental properties almost always come fully furnished and equipped, so it’s easy and straightforward to move right in. Century 21 has a great selection of homes for rent in the Cayman Islands.

We have already helped some professionals who successfully applied for the program to find a beautiful home to rent, and look forward to working with more in the future.

Before you pack your bags, contact us and tell us your requirements, and we will help you find a place to live in Cayman.
